2018 Katrina Dawson Scholars

We are delighted to introduce our two KDF scholars for 2018: Isabella Harris (left) and Clara Rudd (right).

Isabella (“Bella”) hails from Mudgee, NSW. In the words of one of her senior school teachers she has “consistently demonstrated an outstanding work ethic, allowing her to achieve at the highest level academically.” Bella was School Captain in Year 10 and a Prefect in Year 12. She has “outstanding leadership qualities” and “shows initiative and drive and is very perceptive and empathetic towards others.” Bella has engaged actively in public speaking competitions and verse speaking. She has played netball to District State Representative level and also worked part-time as an art teacher at a children’s art studio. One of her biggest passions is dance, and she has performed across many disciplines and in many productions over the years. Bella is studying architecture and wants to specialise in humanitarian architecture, “My big vision is to give much needed support to women in regional centres experiencing domestic violence, through a creative aspect of connectedness and community building.”

Clara is studying Speech Pathology. She completed her schooling at Dalby High School in Queensland, where she was School Captain in Year 12, and described as “self-motivated, hard-working and organised” and “a quality role model to other students”. As well as an excellent academic track record, Clara is a keen public speaker and won the 2017 Lions Youth of the Year public speaking competition for Dalby. She has a passion for drama (performing in several school musicals), plays the cello and is an accomplished classical singer. Clara is a member of several choirs and feels that there is a nice synergy between her singing background and speech pathology. Ultimately, she would like to use her speech pathology training to help disadvantaged communities.
